I use a few different methods to restore threads in hatches, decks, gunwales, transoms.  You know all the little threadsets that are ripped out, or just a nasty screw hole you want to use.  I use Shur-lock sandwich core inserts, blind threaded inserts on decks. I use shallow expandable thru thread sets on fiberglass and well nuts.  Very often I will wrap a stripped screw in fine 1/2 hard copper wire. I use a release agent on the screw, then wrap it in wire, trim the excess and sink it in wet epoxy filling my ripped out hole. Come back next day and unscrew the fastener. you have a pretty solid threadset.
